TECH BASICS
FinTech
Technology built to move, manage, or understand money.
The simple version
FinTech (financial technology) is software and products focused on money — payments, banking, investing, lending, insurance — usually built to make something about finance faster, cheaper, or more accessible than it used to be.
For example
An app that lets you split a restaurant bill with friends instantly, or one that lets a small business accept card payments on a phone — both are FinTech.
Go deeper
FinTech is one of the most heavily regulated areas of tech, because it deals with real money and real risk — which is why FinTech companies often hire specialized roles around compliance, fraud, and risk that you won't see as much elsewhere.
Why it matters
If you like the idea of tech with real-world financial stakes and extra rules to design around, FinTech is a category worth exploring specifically.
