Remote / Hybrid Work

Working fully from home, fully in an office, or some mix of both.

The simple version

Remote work means doing your job from home (or anywhere) instead of a company office. Hybrid work means splitting time between the two, like three days in office and two at home. In-office (or "on-site") work means going to a physical office every day.

For example

A software engineer might work fully remote, joining meetings by video call and never visiting an office. A customer success manager at the same company might work hybrid, coming in a few days a week to meet with the team in person.

Go deeper

How much a job allows remote work often depends on the role and company, not just the industry. Roles that are heavy on independent, screen-based work (like engineering) tend to go remote more easily than roles built around constant in-person collaboration or physical presence.

Why it matters

Remote and hybrid work became far more common in tech than in many other industries, partly because so much tech work already happens on a computer. It's worth understanding early since it can meaningfully shape where you can live and how you work day to day.
