TECH BASICS

Technical vs Non-Technical Careers

Whether a job is mostly about building the product, or about the business around it.

The simple version

"Technical" careers involve directly building or maintaining the product itself — writing code, designing systems, analyzing data with code. "Non-technical" careers work closely with tech products without building them — selling, marketing, supporting customers, running operations.

For example

A Software Engineer writing the code behind an app is a technical role. A salesperson selling that same app to customers is a non-technical role — even though both work at the same tech company on the same product.

Go deeper

This isn't a strict wall — many "non-technical" roles (like Solutions Engineer or Product Designer) sit right on the border, using some code or technical fluency without being full-time builders. Don't rule out tech just because you're not a coder.

Why it matters

Most students assume "working in tech" means coding — it doesn't have to. This distinction is exactly why this app explores so many non-engineering careers alongside engineering ones.
